Workshop

Mechlin lace

Teacher: Rita Thienpondt

As Mechlin lace is a rather complicated lace, we recommend to follow this course for four days.

Mechlin lace is very special. Pins are only used at the edges and around the motifs. The ground is made without pins. Mechlin lace has a special way to start and end a motif, and the lateral joints are unusual for other lace types.
The different techniques will be explained and put into practice.
Day 1    young ‘ice’ ground and small motif
Day 2    lace with scallops at the edge
Day 3    ornamental ground within a motif
Day 4    old ornamental ground with gimps

This lace type is for experienced lace makers that are used to work with fine threads. Good understanding of technical drawings is essential.
